OUR MISSION How did we allow it to happen that we have the most difficult teenagers, endless illness, defeated mentality, exploiters, immoral people. New researches have been made, new technology arrived, high standards we always had, but the education system was left practically the same. Worse, education was left to chance, to shape itself by money making machines like the plastic toy industry, action figures, video and computer games. “Today education is humiliating. If the world continues to educate like this, the man kind will sing even lower.” M. Montessori wrote those words 100 years ago. “Men are not yet ready to shape their destinies; to control and direct world events, of which – instead – they become the victims”. M. Montessori How are we going to fix this? Then a person is lost in life, he seek answers within himself. If a nation is lost, people go back to its founders. If education is lost we have to go back and look at the child. Children reveal their needs and periods of growth. If we give what the child wants, there will be an endless “wanting” list, and satisfaction is so short, literally in minutes. If we give what they need, the satisfaction is permanent, they feel rested, relieved, fulfilled. That is called natural development. “While the child is developing, he perfects himself and overcomes every obstacle he finds in his path. The child is always enthusiastic, always happy – what is called natural development. “ M. Montessori Most of developing countries raise their children according to natural laws. They do what they feel needs to be done. In the information age, we have to slow down. Stop and feel. We should know what we are doing wrong, because only when we do right, feels good. No excuse. Western countries need to stop taking the easy way out, which is usually a mistake. ” The child can watch TV, while I will make this phone call”, “I will order pizza for dinner, I am too tired to cook”, “I will buy something new instead of spending time with the child.” and goes on and on. We feed them garbage for their souls and for their bodies too. Shame on us! We set them up for life? We give them external life pleasures, which probably we are victims ourselves. They grow totally unprepared for the real life.
Overprotection is another problem. We protect our pups so much they think they cannot ever get hurt (physically or emotionally). We are not talking about extremes, but about a little scratch when they fall or when somebody says: “I am not your friend”. That we need to is to give tools how to deal with particular situation. When we are always beside, they cannot function on their own.
What about helping each other, knowing how to interact with older, younger? How about knowing how to wait? “Education is like an island, cut out from world preparing for life by excluding from it.” M. Montessori. Why we failed to change education, because it’s easy for adults. Children sit, lecturers talk, learn from the book. How simple and convenient! Homeschooling should be favored instead.
So let's start from beginning, from ourselves, from understanding, from life in general. Nothing needs to be invented here, all logical, all easy to understand, but difficult to do sometimes. We are glad to be a part of Montessori education and share the views with you.
